GreenCoat® from SSAB, is the brand for innovative, sustainable color coated steel solutions for roofs, facades and rainwater systems. Widely used in sustainable architecture, GreenCoat products offer an extensive range of colors and coatings with Swedish rapeseed oil.

Lindab is an official partner appointed by SSAB for the GreenCoat brand and its products. To become a GreenCoat partner, the company must work actively with sustainability and meet a number of different criteria that SSAB requires.

Colour coated steel

The use of colour coated steel for building applications, as opposed to other materials, allows for great opportunities to create beautiful and functional buildings that meet high environmental and quality requirements. GreenCoat coloured steels are suitable whether it is a modern arena, a traditional cultural building, a residential building or a warehouse.

Swedish rapeseed oil

Most GreenCoat colour coated steel products feature a sustainable coating like none other found in the building industry. Using a substantial portion of Swedish rapeseed oil instead of fossil oil, this patented Bio-based Technology (BT) coating launched in 2012 is the only one on the market made from natural ingredients for exterior building applications like roofs and facades. This helps to drastically lower the environmental footprint of a building.

The different layers

The base material in colour coated steel consists of steel, coated with a thin zinc layer. The zinc coating protects the steel from corrosion in two ways. It is a protective layer keeping oxygen and water away from the steel, but it also acts as a cathodic protection. The pre-treatment layer is applied to further improve the corrosion resistance, but also to give a good adhesion to the coating layer. The primer layer is used for corrosion protection with corrosion protective additives and also acts to give a good adhesion to the top coat.

Investment for reduced energy consumption

Lindab has implemented our largest investment programme in our history. Lindab's ongoing investment program with short pay back times includes approximately 50 projects on Lindab's facilities in Europe. In 2020, we invested SEK 425 million.
